Timeless

Episode One
by psyco nyssa

The TARDIS was abnormally quiet. Adric could not hear a sound, save the echoing of his own footsteps. The Doctor looked up from the book he was casually flicking through. There was something missing, a feeling of loss...

The TARDIS shakily materialised in a dark forest, surrounded by trees. In the shadows, a slight female figure watched silently. The Doctor poked his head cautiously around the door.

"It's alright, Adric. No locals."

He stepped out, closely followed by Adric. "Is that a good thing?" he asked.

"Oh yes, I don't think you'd appreciate an encounter with a Necromancer."

In the bushes, Allis smiled a grim smile. She dodged quickly away, to alert her fellow Necromancers. The time had come. And soon she would be free of this dingy world, thanks to the Doctor and his TARDIS. The sacrifice of the boy was regrettable but necessary. Soon, she would be home...

The Doctor and Adric trudged through the forest. They were soon a long way from the TARDIS and hopelessly lost.

"I thought you said you knew where the TARDIS was at all times Doctor." Adric said.

"I do, but it's like a blind spot in my mind at the moment. Jelly baby?"

"Mmm thanks." Adric munched the sweets. "Why are we here anyway?"

"Oh, a philosophical question."

"Not really, just curiosity." Adric pulled the sleeves of his jacket up to his elbows. "Is it me or is it getting warmer?"

"I don't feel anything... wait though I do smell burning timber. I hope it's not a forest fire."

They continued to wander around the forest in a seemingly random fashion.

"Just a little further now." Allis whispered to herself. She enjoyed playing cat and mouse, she always caught the vermin.

"Adric."

"Yes Doctor?"

"We're not alone."

"Oh. Who are they?"

"No time for more philosophy. When I say run, run for that cave."

"What cave?"

"That cave over there." The Doctor pointed to the mouth of a distant cave. Black shapes detached themselves from the shadows between the trees and started to float ominously towards the two time travellers. "Adric, run."

They set off at a quick pace but before they had covered half the distance the shadows swooped upon them...

The shadowy shapes surrounded the Doctor and Adric before they could make it to the cave. There was a slight chanting murmur that could be heard coming from all around them. Allis emerged from hiding and smiled knowing she would soon be free. As she joined the circle which had engulfed them, a spark shot through the figures and seemed to focus above the heads of the Doctor and Adric.

"What's going on Doctor?"

"Some sort of telepathic energy is being focused on us." The Doctor looked up and then at Allis. "Close your eyes!" With that the two figures covered their faces. Adric hid behind his raised elbow in hopes to keep whatever the Doctor had seen out. There was a slight shocking sensation that shot through the two of them and then the Doctor opened his eyes and found that they had been teleported to an open area of the forest.

He looked back at Adric, who was still covering his eyes. "It's alright now. It seems that they want to keeps us around as some sort of prize."

Adric opened his eyes and noticed that they were in a small dome shaped net enclosure. "We can get out of this, Doctor" announced Adric as he reached for the netting.

The Doctor grabbed his hand and frowned slightly before stating,"Not exactly as it seems." He then reached out and lightly touched the netting to reveal a sharp bolt of electricity shooting up his arm. He recoiled instantly and began shaking his arm.

Allis emerged near the place the Doctor had just touched and looked over the two captives. "The netting will do damage to your physical bodies. Please do not touch it unless you wish to harm the endeavour."

"The endeavour?" remarked the Doctor quizzically.

"I need you alive to pilot your vessel. The boy will allow for my essence to escape this hellish planet."

"Escape?"

"His body will act as a vessel in itself. This will allow for me to once again be free among the 7 galaxies. To walk as you walk among the stars."

"With all due respect... What will happen to Adric?"

Adric's eyebrows arched a bit as he awaited the response.

"The boy's essence will be extinguished and replaced by my own. I do apologize for the inconvenience."

I cannot allow that. The Doctor replied. Adric is the best friend I have.

And youre my best friend Doctor. Adric gushed.

You dont have a choice. Allis laughed. Now let go of this flimsy existence boy.

Think of home Adric. The Doctor whispered. Alzarius, Terradon. Home Adric. Home. Your brother, your cousins. Your mother and father.

What do you think you are doing? Allis asked.

Think hard Adric, think of everything you love. Think of me and Romana and K-9. The Doctor looked at Allis. Hes young but he can resist you.

No! Allis shouted. I will not be denied. I have to get away from here.

Home! Adric shouted.

Allis screamed as dark shapes began to creep towards her position. No, stay away from me.

Goodbye. The Doctor glared at Allis. I think they wont leave much of you behind.

Theyre soul eaters! Allis screamed. Theyll destroy me utterly.

Home Adric, keep thinking of home. The Doctor managed to ruffle the young lads hair. Alzarius, Terradon.

Allis screamed at the darkness surrounded her then it stopped with eerie finality.

The shapes looked at the Doctor and Adric before leaving, their hunger satisfied for now.

The net came away easily now and the Doctor helped Adric to his feet. Adric, one day Im going to get too old for this sort of thing.

Which way is the TARDIS? Adric asked.

The Doctor tapped the side of his nose. This way. Come on, let's leave this place as far behind as possible.

Indeed. Adric agreed and laughed. The Doctor had saved the day once again.

The End.
